Welcome to Texas Leftist

Hey everyone,

Thanks for visiting!! My name is Wayne, and I live in Houston, Texas. I wouldn't consider myself a "diehard" liberal activist, but I definitely can't be described as a right-wing for most issues. I'm a late 20s guy, and I feel like the voice of my generation in Texas gets overshadowed by the older, more established groups. This is my effort to change that. Please come back and read when you can.

  1. Health Care... now or never??

As we all know, this has the potential to be a monumental week in Washington with the President's latest summit venture on Health Care. It's a real shame that it has to come to more bull-heading by the Exec. branch just to get the congress to TALK... but yeah, whatever.

The one question I've been asking myself as of late... does this have to happen n-o-w?? In the midst of two active wars, a very tough economy and record dissatisfaction with Washington, it just seems like too much to deal with now. Most people I talk to around Houston sure feel that way (if they support it at all).

But the reality is this... Health Care may be the MOST important task we have to do right now. The system is weighed down by greedy insurance groups on one hand, overly sick and elderly patients on a second, and young people that keep avoiding paying into the system on the third. Just requiring more HEALTHY people to have coverage will ensure that we can pay our medical professionals. That's step one.

For those of us that already pay, it's not fair for the head of a company like Blue Cross/Blue Shield to make record profits by raising premiums... eventhough they continue to drop coverage for their sickest patients.

So yeah. I agree it's now or never. Let's just hope we can get rid of rosy ideologies for once and put our country first.
